Article in Corporate Communication: The role of the CFO in financial communication

An article by Christian Hoffmann, Sandra Binder-Tietz and Daniel Bendahan Bitton on the role of the CFO in financial communications is published in the academic journal “Corporate Communications: An International Journal”.
The study examines the role of the CFO in financial communication and shows how this differs from that of the CEO. While CEOs communicate strategic issues, CFOs focus on financial performance and dialog with investors. The CFO acts less proactively and mainly within the framework of mandatory communication.
The results are based on interviews with IR and PR experts as well as a survey of 106 experts from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The study also shows that the positioning of CFOs often depends on individual preferences and is less strategically formalized.
The study makes an important contribution to research on top management communication and the importance of resource allocation and rule setting in C-suite communication.
