New BMBF Research Project Launched: “Financial Education through Finfluencers? Supporting Reflective Learning with Explainer Videos”

How do social media finfluencers shape young people’s financial literacy? And how can teachers use explainer videos effectively in the classroom?

These are the central questions of our new interdisciplinary research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The full project title is:

👉 “Financial Education through Finfluencers? Supporting Reflective Learning with Explainer Videos”

Project participants of the research consortium include:

Together, we investigate the quality and impact of Finfluencer explainer videos and aim to develop evidence-based recommendations for their pedagogically informed use in financial education.
The project is structured into six work packages – from video corpus creation and content analysis to empirical studies with students and teachers, and finally the development of teaching materials and a practical guide for educators.

A special focus is placed on understanding how well students comprehend the content, how teachers assess the videos’ effects – and how both perspectives can be integrated into effective teaching strategies.

Results will be made available via a dedicated project website, open access publications, and presentations at academic conferences.

More information will follow soon here on our website.
